Let’s hear it for the boys…
….who deserve a weekend away! Pick a weekend, round up the boys, and stay in Ames for a fun-filled weekend.Â
Day 1:
Morning
Fill up on a hearty breakfast to kick off guys weekend. Stop at the Filling Station, a true Ames gem, for classic omelets, breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and anything else you might need to fuel your day – and your car. They only serve breakfast on Saturdays, though, so plan accordingly!
Afternoon
After your pit-stop at the Filling Station, head to Seven Oaks Recreation, located just 15 miles west of Ames in Boone, Iowa. Enjoy an afternoon of skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing with the guys. Sounds like a perfect afternoon to us!
Night
It’s time to spark some friendly competition. After your day outside, warm up with a few rounds of bowling, pizza and drinks at Perfect Games in west Ames.Â
Day 2:
Morning
Catch up over a tangy bloody mary, sweet pancakes, and sizable skillets. Take the crew to Flip‘N Jack’s for a Tex-Mex inspired brunch with portions big enough to satisfy even the hungriest of appetites.

Afternoon
Revive the good old days with Time Out, a bar located in downtown Ames with retro arcade games to provide endless amounts of childhood nostalgia and fun.
Night
Head to Alluvial Brewing for a taste test (or more – we don’t judge) of Alluvial’s limited-variety craft beer, brewed right here in Ames. Who knows? You might just find your new go-to beer.Â
Day 3:
Morning
Start your last day off with a relaxing hike at Ledges State Park reminiscing on the fun weekend you’ve had. After you’ve worked up an appetite, enjoy one last brunch at The Grove Café for their bigger-than-the-plate world famous pancakes. You can’t leave Ames without trying these – it’s an unspoken rule.Â
Afternoon
One last activity for the boys: try your hands at axe throwing at Inside Golf. All lanes at Inside Golf have anti-bounce borders, easy-to-stick targets, and digital scoring to keep track of who’s the best. (You, of course!)
Night
If you don’t go out for barbecue, is it really a guys weekend? Recap your weekend over ice-cold beer, slow-smoked meats, and homemade sides at Jethro’s BBQ. Bonus points if one of you tries the infamous Adam Emmenecker challenge and beats it.Â
Before you plan your trip, don’t forget to check out the ISU Athletics schedule! If all else fails, just take the boys to an Iowa State Athletics event.Â
