How to spend graduation day in Ames

Congrats, Class of 2023! Looking for something to do with family and friends on your graduation day? Try one of these unique ways to spend graduation day in Ames.

Go out to eat with the whole family

Hickory Park is the perfect place for a large family gathering. Hickory Park is located on Duff Ave, just a few minutes off the interstate. They offer delicious barbeque and homestyle food with a huge dining area that has space for everyone!

Cater food

Want to stay in with your family and friends but don’t feel like cooking? Skip the line and order a barbecue platter to share with the whole family from Jethro’s BBQ. Don’t forget the corn muffins! Call ahead to reserve your catering order at (515) 598-1200.

Rent a picnic spot

Rent an indoor or outdoor shelter at one of Ames’ many parks and take your to-go food for a picnic-style graduation celebration. Our favorite spots? The Maple Shelter at Brookside Park or Big Bluestem Shelter at Moore Memorial Park.

Take photos in your cap and gown  A pair of graduating seniors pose at Beardshear Hall.

Throw on your cap and gown for a photoshoot around Ames. Not sure where to go? Check out these spots around town with photogenic backgrounds.

Make a toast

If anything, celebrate these accomplishments with your family for food and drinks at one of Ames’ local spots.
