Rummage RAMPage
The City of Ames and the ISU Office of Sustainability host “Rummage RAMPage” every summer. This community-wide, second-hand sale keeps reusable items out of the waste stream. Rummage RAMPage repurposes useable items left on curbs during move out and lease changeovers, and keeps them out of the landfill. It works like this: People donate unwanted, usable items to Rummage RAMPage. Non-profit agencies send volunteers to run the sale. Anyone can purchase items, which are priced to sell! The agencies share in any profit. The United Way of Story County serves as the financial distributor of proceeds.
The event is open to anyone to donate or shop.
Many leases in Ames end the last week in July, and renters who are moving may discard items that are still useable. This is when the Ames Resource Recovery Plant (RRP) often sees an influx of couches, wooden furniture, clothing, and housewares. At the same time, new students and renters moving in are often in need of furniture and household essentials.
Rummage RAMPage pairs unwanted items with those seeking inexpensive options to furnish their home.
