Wheels & Wings Bike Ride

Join Story County Conservation, the Iowa Outdoor Alliance of Story County, and the Iowa Bicycle Coalition Wheels & Wings, a monarch-themed bike ride celebrating the Heart of Iowa Nature Trail and its connections with communities, conservation, and cycling across southern Story County.

Pedal through Slater, Huxley, Cambridge, Maxwell, and Collins as the trail links these five communities (21 miles one way) into one shared outdoor experience. Ride along a corridor that not only brings people together but also supports native habitats along the monarch migration route – where prairie, woodlands, and farmland create a vibrant landscape for both cyclists and pollinators.

Registration is live, via Eventbrite! Register by August 31 to receive Early Bird pricing at $45 per rider. Cost then rises to $55 per rider.

Riders will travel 21 miles east, to the turning point in Collins, then follow the trail west back to Slater. Registered riders can expect light snacks and refreshments, themed stops in each community, and ride swag. Funds raised from this event will support the Outdoor Alliance of Story County and the Iowa Bicycle Coalition.
