Uranium Derby film screening
On Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. the Ames Public Library will show free screening of the film Uranium Derby, a feature-length documentary about the role of Ames in the American nuclear experiment. The event will take place in the Auditorium.
The story, centered in Ames, begins with a curious native filmmaker, Brittany Prater, casually looking into her hometown’s highly secretive involvement in the Manhattan Project during the 1940s. Her investigation into this history triggers a chain reaction of encounters through which it becomes clear that the topic of nuclear waste has been more successfully buried than the waste itself.
