Goldfinch on the Lawn concert
Andrew Hoyt and Andersen Coates
Hailing from Des Moines, Andrew Hoyt is the real deal: a singer/songwriter with roots deeply intertwined in the vibrant heart of the Midwest. He’s all about embracing his artistic side and letting his creative juices flow. He’s also a rockstar K-5 vocal music teacher who’s on a mission to inspire the next generation.
Andersen Coates (pictured) is a 24-year-old singer-songwriter, also from Des Moines, creating thoughtful, contemporary folk rock in the vein of Tom Petty and John Mayer. Blending intelligent lyrics, gritty baritone vocals, and blues-soaked guitar, Andersen crafts a sound that is both unique and familiar, contemporary and classic.
Andersen spent his high school and college years developing his musical and songwriting chops, including a stint as lead guitarist for EllieMae – a 2019 contestant on NBC’s The Voice – and spots in Iowa State University’s jazz bands. He also earned first-place awards at Iowa State’s “Cyclone Voice” and “CyFactor” competitions.
Brick and Ember Pizza Company will be onsite at 6:15 p.m., and Stephens Auditorium will have beverages for sale.
The concert will take place on the southeast lawn of Stephens Auditorium. Tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the door on day of show. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets!
