Fitch Family Indoor Aquatic Center Groundbreaking

The groundbreaking ceremony for the $32-million Fitch Family Indoor Aquatic Center is set for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24 at 115 North Elm Ave., north of the Iowa Department of Transportation building. The public is welcome to attend and celebrate the start of construction for this new public recreation facility. Parking is limited in the area.

Centrally located on Lincoln Way, the facility will be built on the property of the old St. Cecilia Church and School. The 38,900-square-foot indoor aquatic center will provide year-round recreational swimming and swimming instruction. It will include a lap pool, recreational pool with play structure, current channel, wellness pool, and interior water slide that loops in and out of the building’s exterior. Additionally, the building will feature two multi-purpose rooms and a walking area.

Construction for the aquatic center will start in the spring of 2024, with the official opening taking place in fall 2025.
