Confronting the Hopelessness of Immigration

This 3-day program begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15 with a lecture by the Rev. Miguel A. De La Torre titled “Why They Come: Exploring the Immigration Crisis at the Southern Border.” This lecture will be held in room 2630 Memorial Union. De La Torre is a professor, author, scholar activist and the 2023 theologian in residence at Ames United Church of Christ.

Saturday and Sunday’s presentations will be available in person at the Ames United Church of Christ or by Ames UCC Zoom. Saturday highlights include a panel discussion titled “How Communities Welcome and Address Issues Immigrants Face” featuring speakers Rob Denson, Maria Ramos, Erica Johnson, Anneke Mundel, and Jasmin Banderas as well as a second panel discussion titled “What Can Faith Communities and Individuals Do?” Complete program details and registration information can be found here.
