Art Mart is a biannual event organized by the MU Workspace and the ISU Gaffer’s Guild. Our campus community of artists includes the following:
- Jamie Beal creates macrame pieces, from functional plant hangers to wall tapestries
- Alyssa Beltman crochets coasters with a vintage vibe that she sells in sets of four.
- Maureen Burke is an encaustic artist, which entails using melted colored wax that is brushed onto a canvas like paint. She also makes beeswrap paper, a sustainable alternative to single-use plastics.
- John Burright is an expert woodworker and will feature decorative wood-turned trees and snowmen, ornaments for your tree, and handsome lidded boxes.
- Jillian Dunlap designs jewelry made with beads, dried flowers, and resin in both pastel and poppy colors.
- Karla Embleton stitches kitschy crocheted cacti. She also throws beautiful, functional pottery for everyday use.
- Caroline Freese throws functional ceramics with delightful animal decals also used in greeting cards, stickers, coloring books, and pillows.
- Grace Hatchitt will have prints of some of her favorite paintings, stickers, and printed tote bags.
- Judy Lemish sews tote bags and belts using upcycled vintage fabrics with retro patterns and makes quippy cards and magnets.
- Truc Nguyen makes adorable animals, including stuffed bunnies and frogs, and tiny cats clay to hang on your planters.
- Ann Pross makes her glass beads and then stacks up to five in coordinating colors to create beautiful pendants.
- Rhonda Scott is a lampworking expert who makes glass beads in spectacular colors that are then turned into delightful jewelry. Her other work includes marbled paper cards, upcycled book journals, and paint-pour art.
- Anka Snider makes earrings using beads in poppy colors, clay with fun shapes, and laser-cut acrylic designs.
- Audrey Stirling is a metalsmith inspired by organic forms in nature; she uses wire wrapping, gemstones, shells, and other found materials in her jewelry pieces.
- Hope Waggoner is a designer with a line of 3-D printed sea creatures. These articulated animals come as keychains or stand-alone fidgets.
- Valerie Williams throws pottery that looks and feels elegant but is meant for everyday use.
- Gaffer’s Guild members are trained in the art and science of glassblowing and have a multitude of pieces in brilliant colors, including vases, beverageware, ornaments, paperweights, and sculptures.
- The Workspace has a mixed bag of fun additions to the event, including pottery from beginner students, the ever-popular mystery boxes, and buttons galore.
The Memorial Union is located at 2229 Lincoln Way on the Iowa State campus, and hourly parking is available in the ramp on the east side of the building. This event is free and open to the public.
