Art exhibition reception for Kathy Svec: Words Illustrated

Kathy’s artworks showcase the beautiful words of authors she’s read. She handwrites the text and illustrates it with layered collages set into shadow-box frames or embellished boxes. Reading the words is an important part of experiencing her work, as each piece tells a story. The works often feature small hand-bound books.

Kathy has two art education degrees, taught high school art, and worked for many years at the Iowa State Memorial Union managing their art-related programs (now retired). She has exhibited her work since 1978 and has evolved through several mediums before finding this one. She lives in Ames.

Public Reception: Friday, Feb. 23, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.; remarks at 5:15 p.m.
