Ames Municipal Band Concert
The Ames Municipal Band performs an hour-long concert at 8 pm at Bandshell Park every Thursday during June and July. Each week the band will perform a different concert featuring popular music, light classical, hymns, marches and music from Broadway and films. Each concert will have a vocal soloist and at times, special selections, instrumental soloists and guest conductors to help celebrate this season. It’s music for all ages to enjoy.
All concerts begin at 8:00 pm and Bandshell Park is located at East Sixth and Duff Avenue. Concerts are free, fun and family-friendly. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
The Ames Municipal Band has 53 members who range from high school age to players in their 80s. The band rehearses each Tuesday night for their Thursday performances.
Dr. Michael Golemo is in his twenty-fourth year as the director of the Ames Municipal Band. Golemo also serves as the Director of Bands at Iowa State University.
The Ames Municipal Band receives its support from the City of Ames and is a part of the Ames Parks and Recreation program. Concerts are emceed by the talented John Burnett
