An Ames resident’s guide to hosting riders

What a rider expects:

  • A place to put a tent outside OR inside floor space for a sleeping bag
  • Access to an indoor toilet and shower, if possible
  • A water source to fill water bottle

What a rider should NOT expect:

  • To have full use of your home
  • To be fed and entertained
  • Towels, soap, and shampoo

What hosts can expect:

  • Well-behaved, appreciative guests
  • Riders to arrive mid-afternoon on Tuesday, July 25 and depart by 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26
  • To meet fascinating people who will remember your kindness!

What is completely up to you:

  • Which guest(s) you choose and how many are in the group
  • Use of laundry facilities
  • Offering snacks, beverages, or morning coffee

To host a rider:

  • Click on the button below.
  • Scroll through the profiles of the groups (click on group name for more information) and select the rider or group you wish to host.
  • Tip: Use the filters on the left side of the page to indicate the type and size of group you wish to host.
  • After you choose a rider or group, reply to the listing with a message to the group leader with your contact information and make necessary arrangements for the overnight stay.
  • Be sure to retain the name and contact information of your rider/group because this information is NOT stored in this system once you are matched.
