Lake Wobegon Brass Band

The Twin Cities-based Lake Wobegon Brass Band will present a fall concert at Ames High School on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m.  The 30-piece Lake Wobegon Brass Band, directed by Michael Halstenson, will perform in the high school auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

Lake Wobegon Brass Band’s fall concert program features a variety of works composed and arranged for brass ensemble. A highlight will be a performance of Aaron Copland’s iconic and timely Lincoln Portrait, with narration by band member Jack Stamp. Stamp’s original compositions From Concrete to Cobblestones, Mill City Flourish, and San Luis Snapshots will also be included on the program. Audience members are sure to enjoy an exciting performance of Jimmy Webb’s popular MacArthur Park, as well as the traditional Scarborough Fair.

Ames High School student instrumentalists will join the ensemble to play John Philip Sousa’s classic Stars & Stripes Forever to conclude the afternoon concert with a rousing finale.
