In Our Backyard: A New Eco-Play Festival

Save the dates for May 1-3, 2026! The EcoTheatre Lab presents IN OUR BACKYARD: A New Eco-Play Festival.
Friday, May 1st, 7:00 p.m. at Labyrinth Coffee
Saturday, May 2nd, 10:30 a.m. at Ames Public Library
Saturday, May 2nd, 2:00 p.m. at Ames Public Library
Sunday, May 3rd, 2:00 p.m. at Labyrinth Coffee
Four unique events, featuring eight new plays by local playwrights, new music by local singer-songwriters, and neighborhood resiliency conversations facilitated by the Ames Climate Action Team! Free and open to the public!
Actors: Auditions for readings of the new plays will be March 29th and 31st. More info coming soon!
Support for this project is provided by the City of Ames Climate Action Grant Program, Discover Ames, Ames Public Library Friends Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts and the Iowa Arts Council, which exists within the Iowa Economic Development Authority.

  • Bringing major events that draw tens of thousands of people to our community including Boys State Basketball and Campustown Showdown
  • Attending national trade shows and conferences to find new opportunities of events to bring to Ames
  • Providing top-tier service before, during and after each event

Advocating
for Our Community

  • Funding feasibility studies for local projects
  • Helping advance tourism developments like CyTown and The LINC
  • Advocating for tourism with elected officials- Local & State
  • Driving converstations on a new Fieldhouse in Ames
  • Collaborating with Ames Alliance, iTIP, City of Ames, ISU & Visit Boone County
