Gathering of Artists
Featuring the work of Kathy Svec
The Gallery in the Round, located inside the Unitarian Fellowship of Ames (1015 Hyland Ave.), will host the next Gathering of Artists on Tues., March 19 from 6 – 8 p.m., featuring the work of artist Kathy Svec. Kathy will offer remarks at 6:30 p.m.
Artists and art enthusiasts of all types are invited to the Gatherings, where they can meet other artists, get feedback, get inspired, and have fun. The events are free and open to all. Refreshments will be served.
The exhibit featured during this Gathering, Words Illustrated, showcases the beautiful words of authors Kathy has read. She handwrites the text and creates illustrations with layered collages set into shadow-box frames or embellished boxes. Reading the words is an important part of experiencing her work as each piece tells a story. The works often feature small hand-bound books.
Kathy has two art education degrees, taught high school art, and worked for many years at the Iowa State Memorial Union, managing their art-related programs (now retired). She has exhibited her work since 1978 and has evolved through several mediums before finding this one.
