CROP Walk for Hunger
AMES CROP Walk is an annual walk that began in Ames in 1972. The walk works to create an awareness of hunger and to raise funds to fight hunger. Part of the funds go to 7 local food pantries in Story County and the remainder goes to help in disaster areas. In the world 1 in 7 people are food insecure with over half being children. In Story County over 10% of children are food insecure and in Iowa about 15% of the people are food insecure.
The Walk will be a storybook walk in which the Ames Public Library has a story about hunger throughout the walk. Those who are not able to walk are encouraged to attend as the story will be read to them in the shelter house. Cookies and water will be available to participants.
