Author event: Amy Kolen

Join the Ames Public Library and author Amy Kolen on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Rotary Room for a discussion of her new memoir: Inside Voices: A Prison Choir, My Mother, and Me. Participate in person or online via Zoom. A Zoom link will be posted on the Library’s online calendar at www.AmesPL.org/events before the event.

Amy’s essays have been published in several anthologies, including Best American Essays, 2002, and have appeared in a variety of publications. Amy was born in Ames and graduated from Ames High School in 1969.  Holding an MFA in nonfiction writing from the University of Iowa, she sang with the Oakdale Community Choir for four years.

Join us after the presentation for a free screening of the award-winning documentary The Inside Singers by Daniel Kolen, a film about the prison choir Amy discusses in her book.
