Ames Public Library

We’re a place where books are just the beginning, especially when it comes to activities and experiences for kids, teens, and adults. Our building is designed for exploration, creativity, and connection, with programs happening year-round that give people a reason to come back again and again.

Kids & Families

  • Baby Time and Toddler Storytime with songs, movement, and early literacy fun
  • Preschool and Family Storytimes that build imagination and social skills
  • Summer Reading programs with challenges, prizes, and special events
  • Kids Summer Blast programs featuring crafts, hands-on activities, and free lunches for youth
  • Kids Chess Club for elementary students to learn strategy and play together
  • Homeschool programs and book clubs designed specifically for young learners
  • STEM kits, activity kits, and interactive learning tools available to check out

Teens

  • Teen Advisory Board where teens help shape programs and library spaces
  • Teen Takeover events and after-school hangouts
  • Gaming nights and creative workshops
  • Book clubs and reading challenges geared toward middle and high school students
  • Volunteer opportunities that build leadership skills and community involvement

Adults

  • Author talks, lectures, and community conversations
  • Book clubs for a wide range of interests and genres
  • Creative workshops, tech help, and lifelong learning programs
  • Access to meeting rooms, quiet workspaces, and collaborative areas

We’re proud to be a space where families linger, kids feel excited to learn, teens feel welcomed, and adults stay curious. Engaging programs, hands-on activities, and delightful surprises make every visit feel like more than just checking out a book.

I’m ready to help!
