607 Guest House

A Historic Stay with Small-Town Charm

Step into History. Stay in the Story.

The 607 Guest House is a vintage vacation home designed to be an experience, not just a place to sleep. Built in 1867—the same year the first railroad tracks were laid in in Iowa—this 150+ year-old home was once owned by railroad tycoon John Insley Blair and remains deeply connected to Boone’s railroading legacy. Located just minutes from Ames, it offers a memorable home base for exploring Central Iowa.

Today, the home blends historic character with thoughtful modern comforts. As you arrive, you’re greeted by a large, open 1800s front porch, a welcoming space made for relaxing and reconnecting. Whether you’re sipping lemonade, sharing stories, or enjoying a quiet moment, the porch sets the tone for a truly Midwest stay.

Step inside through the oversized three-panel beveled leaded glass door, which has welcomed guests for more than 150 years. Inside, original heart pine floors, restored wood windows with working weights and pulleys, and additional preserved leaded glass panes highlight the craftsmanship of the past. Train, Iowa, and Midwest-inspired artwork and décor carry the story throughout the home, while modern updates—such as a heated bathroom floor and a zoned central air conditioning system—ensure comfort in every season.
