April 22 is Earth Day, and what better way to celebrate than by admiring all of Earth’s beauty? Head to these dreamy spots to appreciate the best views of Earth that Ames provides.Â
Ledges State Park
Take a quick 20 minute drive west to visit Ledges State Park – the views are hard to beat. Enjoy sandstone ledges (and see why it’s named Ledges) that tower over the Des Moines river as you hike the trail system.Â
Clouds
Experience Earth from 100 feet above at Clouds, located in campustown. Enjoy a hand-crafted coffee and dessert, inspired by traditional European Cafes, with a cloud’s-eye view of the Iowa State campus on the side.Â
Tedesco Environmental Learning Corridor
Get more familiar with the great outdoors at Tedesco Environmental Learning Corridor, a 37-acre park in the newly expanded ISU Research Park. Tedesco features paved and natural walking trails, stream, wetland, and prairie restoration, and interactive educational elements. This community space is perfect to appreciate nature’s beauty, and learn something new!
Ada Hayden Heritage Park
Lake days are the best days. Head to Ada Hayden Heritage Park for a lap around the lake, a few peaceful minutes to yourself on the swing, fish for a new catch, or take the family for a picnic. It’s an Ames staple – and for good reason!
Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad Rail Explorers USA
Looking for something more adventurous? Try one of Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad’s Rail Explorers USA rides through Iowan farmland to the Des Moines River, with breathtaking views on the way. With the weather warming up, this fun-filled activity is the perfect way to spend the afternoon!
