SUMMARY:Gardening for Beginners
DESCRIPTION:Join us, and our partners from Mustard Seed Farms, for a beginner gardening workshop series to learn all of the basics to starting your own backyard garden. Whether you just need a place to start or need to develop a little greener thumb, this beginner gardening series is for you. Our goal is to go through each season to help you, and your garden, grow with confidence and success! If you attend all four you will receive a gift card to a local Greenhouse!\n Register here ( https://www.mycountyparks.com/County/Story/Park/McFarland-Park/Events/25520/Gardening-for-Beginners-Series )\nPart one (April 6): Co-Host: Kate Solko from Root to Rise Farm\nThe first session is all about gathering the information and tools you need to get started, designing and preparing your garden, soil health, and indoor seed preparation. We will also talk about planting your garden, transplanting seed starts, watering, and weeding. We will also explore the best practices for maintaining a healthy garden once it’s growing and some of the tools you can use to make gardening tasks more efficient.\nPart two (June 28)\nDuring the thick of the summer growing season we will check in to see how the gardens are growing. We will discuss garden tending, watering, weeding, diseases that might affect your plants, and critters that you might see in your garden as well. We will also dive into harvest techniques and how to tell when to pick produce, as well as what tasty recipes to use with what you grew. We might briefly talk about annuals vs perennials and discuss commonly used flowers/ plants in hanging baskets and planters as well.\nPart three (Sept. 13)\nOur last session will focus on fall harvest and preserving the harvest. We invite you to bring in produce to swap with other participants if you like. We will have produce and food to sample as well as recipes to take home. We will share stories of how our gardening seasons went and discuss harvest techniques. We will also learn about the basics to canning and preserving your leftover produce.\n
