DESCRIPTION:Join the Ames Public Library and author Amy Kolen on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Rotary Room for a discussion of her new memoir: Inside Voices: A Prison Choir, My Mother, and Me. Participate in person or online via Zoom. A Zoom link will be posted on the Library’s online calendar at www.AmesPL.org/events ( http://www.AmesPL.org/events ) before the event.\nAmy’s essays have been published in several anthologies, including Best American Essays, 2002, and have appeared in a variety of publications. Amy was born in Ames and graduated from Ames High School in 1969.  Holding an MFA in nonfiction writing from the University of Iowa, she sang with the Oakdale Community Choir for four years.\nBooks can be purchased online from Dog-Eared Books ahead of time and picked up at the event: https://dogearedbooksames.com/  ( https://dogearedbooksames.com/ )A small selection of books will also be available for purchase at the event.\nJoin us after the presentation for a free screening of the award-winning documentary The Inside Singers by Daniel Kolen, a film about the prison choir Amy discusses in her book.\nPresented by the Iowa Center for the Book and Ames Public Library in partnership with Dog-Eared Books.\n
